According to the county coroner, a Georgia man shot two of his family and a fast food restaurant manager before shooting himself on Thursday in rural south Georgia.
Details
According to Colquitt County Coroner C. Verlyn Brock, the shooter killed his 50-year-old mother and 74-year-old grandmother in two neighbouring homes and a woman, age 41, inside a McDonald’s restaurant in downtown Moultrie. According to him, the gunman, 26, then shot himself.
According to the coroner, all three women looked to have been shot many times.
McDonald’s stated the lady killed at their location was a manager, although they did not identify her. Brock declared that he did not know whether the shooter was armed.
Investigations About the Incident
Moultrie police requested that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation assume the lead in the investigation, as it occurs with crimes in Georgia.
As of Thursday evening, the GBI had only issued a statement stating that “multiple fatalities” had occurred at various places.
About the Gunman
Jerry Goodwin shared a house with the gunman, his mother, and the grandmother, who lived two houses down. He told The Associated Press on Thursday that while he was sleeping, his wife heard shots fired before 1 a.m.
Goodwin stated that the youthful man who lives next door came outside and shot a gun while saying something earlier in the week and that Moultrie police responded.
On Thursday, though, it appears that cops did not respond immediately.
Goodwin claimed he didn’t know his neighbours well, although the guy had visited his property several years earlier to seek help erecting a fence.
George Suarez Closed the Restaurant
According to George Suarez, owner, and operator of the Moultrie McDonald’s, the restaurant will stay closed until further notice.
“We are devastated by the loss of our beloved restaurant manager, and our hearts go out to all the victims of this senseless act of violence,” Suarez said in a statement released by the Chicago headquarters of McDonald’s.
