After a devastating spell of rains and floods in Baluchistan, the Baluchistan government has decided to re-open the schools across the province. All schools remained closed for a period of two weeks as most of the areas in Baluchistan, the biggest province of Pakistan by area, were wrecked by the torrential rains and floods. The government is trying its best to rehabilitate internally displaced persons. But at this moment when most people have yet to go back to their homes, the opening of the school received a kind of mixed response from the different quarters concerned.
Closing of schools in Balochistan
All the schools across the province were closed on 20th August since the then provincial government was working day and night to provide relief to the flood-affected people and settle them in their homes. Among all priorities saving the future of students and nation builders remained on the top. Therefore, authorities without wasting the time immediately went for the decision of saving the educational loss of the nation builders.
Premier visits Quetta
Prime Minister Shabazz Sharif visited Quetta, the provincial capital of Baluchistan, to monitor the rescue operation being carried out to help the people against the havoc played by these heavy rains. He met the victims of this calamity of floods and rains. He himself monitors the operations carried out by government agencies and appreciated all those who didn’t let their fellow human beings alone in this time of difficulty.
Government Announces Package for the flood-Affects
PM has announced a special package for Baluchistan and reassured that the government will not leave them alone at this time. All federal and provincial government machinery will be used to help them. He also reiterated that we will not sit until all are not in their homes again and all institutions are not back to normal working. The Baluchistan government is all praise for the charity organizations and philanthropies who are adamant to serve their country fellows till they again start normal day-to-day affairs of the country.
Worst flood in the history of Pakistan
This is the worst calamity in the history of Pakistan. The numbers of causalities are great which are yet to be determined by the authorities. All the cities looks deserted. Those who survived are in a very pathetic condition. They have lost their homes and source of income like animals and crops.
Reopening of the educational institutions will not be fruitful until normalcy return to the life of the people and they again have a proper source of income to support and afford the education of their children. All the political parties have unanimously demanded immediate restoration of Baluchistan’s infrastructure.
Local People Response to Rehabilitation Work
A renowned Baluchi politician, on the condition of anonymity, has expressed some concerns about the ongoing relief operation and presented a more pathetic picture of their poor people than what is shown in media.
He further mentioned that things are in the worst conditions and the government is just telling the people all is going well and the situation is under control. He demanded the government should come forward to help the people in this difficulty if it wants to serve them in a true sense.
